Our History

Stewart’s Decorating has been a family operated business since the day Paul Stewart, his wife Joanne and their two daughters traveled to North Bay for the first time in the late 1970’s. Paul started his career as a Wallpaper Sales Representative in Toronto, he was excellent at his job! He was genuinely interested in those he met, and treated clients with utmost kindness and respect. When Paul heard that St. Clair Paint and Wallpaper was for sale in North Bay, he and Joanne decided to buy the business and move North.

Their move from Southern Ontario was a positive choice as their new business adventure was operating so well, that a second location was opened in the Northgate Shopping Centre. Both locations operated successfully for ten years serving North Bay with paint and wallpaper, until Paul and Joanne embarked on their next adventure!

An independent brand of the Stewart’s was created, and Stewart’s Decorating operated out of their new Main Street location! Stewart’s Decorating carried paint and wallpaper, but also introduced flooring and window coverings, light fixtures and fine furniture. The Main Street location was the foundation for what Stewart’s Decorating is today. From Main Street to Trout Lake Road, and Lakeshore Drive, Stewart’s has proudly served the community for over 30 years and counting!

In 2017 Stewart’s took on a new challenge by combining their Trout Lake and Lakeshore locations into one building on Regina Street. Alexandra, Paul and Joanne’s daughter is now the Design Director of the company and manages the store under one roof! We like to think of our store as a “one stop shop” for our customers, and we are proud to serve them 7 days a week!

Alexandra Stewart

Design Director

Alexandra is our design director, business manager and a vault of encouragement and kindness to all her employees, family and friends. Alexandra’s journey with Stewart’s Decorating began when she was just a young girl and her parents Paul & Joanne decided to start a career in North Bay. Alexandra started working at the paint store when she was just 13 years old, she would work on weekends throughout high school and university. Alexandra grew to be her father’s close companion learning much of her business knowledge from her father. After finishing Teacher’s College, Alexandra pursued a career in teaching before she returned to the family business full time in 2005. Alexandra’s style and design inspiration comes from all things beautiful, soothing and romantic. Self-taught and determined, she oversees large commercial jobs in the creation and growth of North Bay and surrounding area. If you are looking for an expert on blinds, a commercial project or any renovation, Alexandra could be the perfect consultant for you!

Lisa Wagner

Interior Consultant & Flooring Manager

Lisa buzzes with excitement and brings a dynamic energy to those around her…but then again this could just be the coffee!? :) Lisa has extensive business knowledge as she worked as a Master Hair Colorist in her own hair salon for many years. Lisa has a great eye for color and picks up on all details.  Lisa oversees installations and manages commercial and residential projects. Lisa welcomes every day with a grateful heart and happy attitude. From full home renovations to a simple upgrade or a complete new build Lisa’s expertise, efficiency and style guidance are what her clients love and appreciate most about her!

Johanna Brooks

Interior Consultant & Lighting Manger

Johanna, or Jo as we call her around here, brings an innovative trendy approach to our design team! If you are looking for a consultant full of honesty (and sarcasm), Johanna could be the perfect fit for you! Johanna is excellent at color theory and creating a mood for each space based off of her client’s lifestyle and taste! Johanna studied Fashion Arts at Humber College combing her small-town country roots with big city style and design. She loves creating looks that are different but classic at the same time. Johanna travels alongside Alexandra each year to Dallas Texas to the Lightovation Show where they hand select each light fixture. If you are looking for a particular style, or fixture Jo is sure to source it for you! Styling and decorating comes natural to Jo, and she assists in the buying of our home decor and ensures our showroom is well styled and put together!

Rose Cushing

Benjamin Moore Paint Manager

Rose manages our paint department and ensures that our staff mixes each gallon of Benjamin Moore paint with the utmost care. You can find Rose around the store wearing her paint splattered lab coat doing a custom color match or mixing stain. Her laugh is contagious and her smile is kind, we are thankful to have an expert adviser apart of our team for the last 20 years and counting. Much of Roses knowledge comes from testing the products we carry to ensure our customers are served with quality and care.

Nancy Mitchell

Store Coordinator

Nancy’s friendly and upbeat voice is the first one you hear when you walk in the front doors of our location! Whether its first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon, Nancy is sure to greet each person with a smile and point them in the right direction. Nancy is our social butterfly, there are very few people that walk in to our store that Nancy doesn’t know. Her heartfelt connections to customers is very warm and true, whatever you may need Nancy is sure to help you find it.
